About Us

The National Union of Backward Classes, SCs, STs & Minorities is a nationwide organization dedicated to safeguarding the interests of OBCs, SCs, STs, and Minorities. Our efforts were instrumental in the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations, and we continue to strive for the advancement and protection of these communities across political, social, educational, and economic spheres.

Founded in 1982, the NUBC was driven by the visionary leadership of the late Ch. Brahm Prakash, the first Chief Minister of Delhi, who served as our first National President. Prominent leaders such as Shri Karpoori Thakur, Shri B.P. Mandal, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Shri K. Veeramani, Shri Chandrajit Yadav, Shri Dainiklal, Shri Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Shri Sharad Yadav were instrumental in the formation of the NUBC. Eminent leaders like Shri D.P. Yadav and Shri Rajendra Yadav have also served as National Presidents, significantly contributing to our growth and development.

NUBC’s nationwide movement using mass protests and rallies in the eighties was successful in generating mass awareness and putting pressure on the political parties for acceptance and implementation of Mandal Commission’s recommendation for granting reservations to the OBCs in government and public sector jobs and in admissions to educational institutions. The demand was fulfilled in August 1990 by the then National Front coalition government in the Centre led by Prime Minister late V.P.Singh. We are now demanding removal of creamy layer regulation in OBCs reservations because historical social discrimination and injustices faced by OBCs for centuries cannot be deemed to have gone away by improvement in economic status of OBCs.

We at NUBC have been demanding 50 percent reservation for women in all seats in Lok Sabha and state legislatures for the nearly the last two decades. This demand was met partially by the NDA government in the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by enacting the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam or the Women’s Reservation Act in September 2023. We now demand immediate implementation of the Act without waiting for the delimitation of constituencies.

NUBC has a long charter of demands that also include providing reservation to OBCs. SCs, STs and minorities in private sector companies including the multinationals, reservation of seats in Lok Sabha and state legislatures for OBCs and minorities according to their population, reservation for OBCs, SCs, STs and minorities in appointment of judges in lower courts as also in High Courts and Supreme Court.
